On our first night there was no water at all and no apology was given for this - we couldn't shower after travelling all day which really sucked. When we arrived on our first day we had to wait 1.5 hours to check in after the time our room was meant to be available. The water pressure in the shower was very bad and we asked them to fix it which they tried to do unsuccessfully. They reminded me of sheets in $5 per night hostels I've stayed in Thailand. The sheets on the bed were simply awful and no where near acceptable for such a pricey hotel. Generally there was a feeling of disorganisation with sometimes up to 3 different waiters coming to take your order. To be fair some of the staff are more attentive however overall the service was below average compared to every other restaurant we ate in for our entire 3 week trip. At times we felt like it was a bit of a pain for them to serve us which is actually their only job so we found this very grating. It's definitely not service with a smile, most of the time the waiters appear stressed, rushed off their feet and like they don't have time to serve you properly. Why was it so bad? Service is very slow, waiters often neglect to come and take your order or bring a menu, or have to be asked 2 or 3 times to bring something simple like an ashtray. Good points: - very nice food, mostly Mexican, not exceptional but very good and we did eat in the restaurant most days during our stay - the restaurant area is decorated in a really cool and attractive rustic beach cabana style with lots of nice Mexican touches, it's a very large space so even when the restaurant is full you don't feel like its over crowded - we stayed in a beach-side cabana and we really liked the way it was decorated - rustic but in a chic more upmarket way - location of La Zebra is really good, it's very close to some of the best restaurants in the area including Hartwood, Casa Banana, Gitano etc and just a 5 min taxi ride away from other cool places to eat such as Mateo's - live music on some days was quite fun - the chill out area on the beach is definitely one of the best we came across on our long beach walks - loads of comfy places to sit and relax in the shade or sunshine Bad points: - The service in the restaurant and bar was pretty awful for much of our stay and it really took the shine off our stay here. We have such mixed feelings about La Zebra the easiest thing is to break it down into positives and negatives. We are a couple in our early 30s and we stayed for a week in early January 2015 hoping to finish our 3 week trip around Mexico on a high. We had high hopes for our stay at La Zebra after doing a lot of research on hotels in the area and finally selecting this one.
